NALA is a local-first command center for AI coding agents: a durable terminal multiplexer, an orchestration layer, on-device voice, and MCP integration in one product. It works with the agents and subscriptions you already have, and everything runs on your machine.
NALA runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Downloadable artifacts are published for Windows x64 today; macOS and Linux builds are not yet published. See platform support for exactly what exists, and the download page for the current version.
NALA is not one program. Clients talk to a local daemon that owns the durable state; the session host owns the processes. Understanding this split explains most of the product.
nala is a local-first command center for AI coding agents. It combines five things into one product: a durable terminal multiplexer, a local orchestration layer for agents, on-device voice, MCP integration, and a company mode for building teams of agents. It works with the agents and subscriptions you already have: Claude Code, Codex, Devin, Cursor, Grok, Kimi K3, or any CLI agent you define yourself.
Everything runs on your machine. There is no cloud host to sign into, no telemetry, and no inference markup: you bring your own models and agent subscriptions, and nala conducts.
nala ships as three peers attached to one shared daemon. State flows between all three, so you can start work in one and pick it up in another.

Start in a terminal with nala, then open the desktop attached to the same session with nala desktop. Or start in the desktop and attach a terminal later. Nothing is lost either way.
A terminal that never dies. Sessions live in a detached daemon. Close the app, reboot the machine, and your terminals, scrollback, and agent conversations come back exactly where they were. Suspended sessions persist for seven days.
Orchestration, locally. Durable tasks with modes and verification gates, Markdown artifacts, approval-gated agent spawning, and department-level git worktrees. The daemon is the single durable writer for all of it.
Agents that talk to each other. A durable agent-to-agent protocol (send, ask, reply, inbox) with three policy modes: Off, Connect, and Orchestrate. Loop prevention watches every conversation.
Voice, on-device. Hold Space and speak; Whisper transcribes into the active terminal. Read Aloud speaks text back with Kokoro-82M, fully on-device, in 14 curated voices. One shortcut dictates system-wide, even when nala sits in the tray.
Your terminal as an agent tool. nala registers itself as an MCP server with Claude, Codex, and Gemini, exposing 30+ tools for workspace control, terminal routing, and browser automation. Registration is surgical: it never clobbers your own config.
A firm of agents, not a chatbot. Company mode builds an organization the way you would build a firm: a CEO agent, departments, leads, and members drawn from 40+ presets, each department in its own worktree, every member's cost tracked.
nala itself is free, forever, and genuinely useful: the desktop app, the terminal agent, the CLI, every agent integration, on-device voice, and updates. Not a trial, not crippleware, and local use never requires an account.
The only thing you ever pay for is optional: NALA Managed hosted services, priced in prepaid credits by usage, never a mandatory subscription. Your own subscriptions, API keys, and local models always work without it.
